What I’ve Been Doing Lately

Since my last post about the beard hats, I’ve been obnoxiously busy with school work and crochet orders, but I’m not complaining. I love hearing feedback about all of the items I make and it makes me smile when someone loves something so much they want one for their own! So I want to take a second to say thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to place an order and bump up my “business.”

I don’t really have anything super exciting to post about, but I do want to show off share the lovely things I’ve been creating lately aaaand brag about my new crochet hooks my friend Nick was so generous to buy me as a Christmas gift (they took forever to come through the mail!) So here’s what I’ve been up to:

My grandma bought me some fun beads that look like berries — Can’t wait to find a cute project for these!

I’ve been dealing with an adorable nuisance while cranking out lots of ginger colored beards for the upcoming South Side Irish Parade here in Chicago

Had a few orders for the “Boho” style headband I posted about a while ago.

Started making and mass producing a new coffee mug cozy that can also be used for travel mugs. I’m obsessed with these little guys!

Finally finished my first attempt at leg warmers. I’d say they were a success! A friend of mine showed me a picture she found on Pintrest (I wish I could link it but I have no idea where she found it!) and asked if I could recreate them. I may just make a pair for myself…

Aaaaaand finally, my new obsession – my new bamboo crochet hooks! Nick bought them for me for Christmas and they finally came in the mail from Singapore. I never knew what was the big deal about bamboo hooks. But, they’re super soft and light weight compared to the metal hooks I’ve been using, and they just feel really nice to work with. Thank you, Nick!

So that’s about it… School work, insane amounts of reading, fulfilling crochet orders, and filling the left over time with friends. What have you been filling up your time with lately??

Knitting Hooker!

Fantastic news! Regarding my previous post, I have officially become a “knitting hooker.”  If you haven’t been following me (=O for shame!!) I received a request from my friend Jessica to make an adorable bohemian style headband last week.  First I was going to crochet it, but being that I’ve been wanting to actually make a knit project I found this the perfect opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone.  The pattern seemed easy enough and I’ve had the basics of knitting down pat for some time, but I could just never get over that hump of following through with a project. Finally, I sat down and (…6 hours later) came out with a gray headband.  As adorable as it is, I don’t think I will  be knitting another one for some time.. I think I’ll stick with being a crochet hooker and a small time knitter for those special projects on which I don’t mind spending my precious, precious time.

Drum roll, pleaaase…..

TA DA! And as an added bonus, a headband I whipped up inspired by vintage headscarf-ware.

I’ve already crocheted two headbands like this and they look just as cute as the knit version; they just take about 5 hours less to make! I love the style and they do a dandy job of keeping the ears cozy. Jessica loves hers and reported that it bore the Chicago Winter just beautifully!

Marathon Crocheting

What is my favorite attribute about the cold weather seasons? Cuddling up under my cozy blanket, Netflix and some yarn.  This weekend I did some marathon crocheting because my orders are blowing up! I’m so grateful to everyone who is supporting me and my creative efforts by purchasing some cozy, warm goodies from me, even if my fingers feel like they’re going to fall off! So I sat at home this weekend, saving my libations for fun on Tuesday and Black Wednesday, and made a dent in my orders…

My good friend Jeff requested some baby hats which turned out more than adorable. There was one more hat but I didn’t take a picture of it, only because I’ve made one just like it before. Needless to say it was adorable too!

AAAAAND I found a way to improve on my lovely flower headbands with an awesome new pattern for a flower, which I found on youtube! I really like this flower because it has a cool 3D effect and I can do dual colors =) I banged out three of these little guys in one sitting.

And finally, I started on another big comfy infinity scarf for a Christmas present. I have quickly remembered why I hate making scarves. Row.. after row.. after row.. after row.. how exciting. BUT it’s going to be worth it because infinity scarves are rad, and if it turns out anything like the one I made for myself last year, every inch of it will be loved and cherished! On another note, I’m planning on trying out a basket weave headband for myself and today I added to my crochet hook collection and bought an afghan hook so look forward to some cool new creations.

P.S. I feel bad for my friends who subscribed to this blog.. What could be more boring than hearing about my granny activities??! Oh well, time to go watch Dexter and drool over Michael C. Hall.
